About the studio
Janine Kropla, the sole face behind Kropla Studio, is a photographer, designer and artist. She began her career as a photographer, producing images for a variety of clients such as The Globe and Mail, Macleans, and Chatelaine.
Continuing her education, Janine completed an undergrad in Environmental Design and a Masters of Architecture.
While in school, Janine took up ceramics as an outlet for creative expression. Over the past 5 years she has continued to develop her skills, purchasing a wheel and a kiln, and setting up a home studio.
Janine’s study of functional stoneware is influenced by landscapes and their materiality, seasons and moods, food and its tactility. Her work is an ongoing exploration into objects and forms, fuelled by a curiosity of science and materials, and connecting time, traditions, and notions of nostalgia through working with the hands.
